Superconductor - Full - XL Filament

Full XL filament slice of superconductor: niobium–titanium (NbTi) filaments in a copper matrix.

The largest filaments we carry, each one a distinct shape in the copper. A large cross cut with a regular pattern across the whole face. The filaments run through the full thickness, so the pattern stays regular and clean as you contour the handle.

Large enough to cut full handle scales, something rarely possible in this material.

Spec: 0.100–0.120 in or 0.150–0.170 in thick. Select by weight and thickness. The photo shows a representative slice from this grade, on a cutting grid for scale.

Maker's notes

• The silver-and-copper contrast is in the metal itself. No etching is needed.
• Copper loads abrasives quickly. Use fresh belts and light pressure.
• The slice conducts heat well and gets hot fast while grinding. Work in short passes and let it cool.
• Bare copper develops a patina with handling. Let it age, or seal it to keep the bright finish.
